Use the relevant later airport’s current rules, because those UK pages do not establish universal acceptance at every overseas checkpoint.

Ask about packaging before paying

Tell the retailer you have a connecting flight and identify where it is. Ask whether it can provide the packaging and receipt required by the relevant rules. Check the completed bag before leaving the shop, including that the receipt is inside and visible where required. Do not assume every ordinary shop carrier bag is a security bag.

Keep the purchase sealed when the rules require that and protect the packaging from accidental damage. Avoid opening it to rearrange gifts or distribute items among companions while a further checkpoint remains. If staff at security need to inspect it, follow their directions and ask about the onward arrangement rather than trying to preserve the seal against an official screening request.

Check the packaging before walking away from the till, while the retailer can still correct a missing receipt or unsuitable bag. Keep the flight itinerary accessible so you can describe the next security checkpoint accurately without guessing its airport or date.

Check baggage and destination rules separately

Confirm how the purchase counts under the airline’s bag allowance. Permission to take a liquid through security is a different question from how many bags you may carry onboard. If it must fit inside your existing bag, check the space and weight before buying several bottles or a large gift pack.
