Course discounts: calculate the full learning cost
Compare course offers using tuition, assessment, software and access costs rather than the percentage reduction alone.
Write down the exact course and intended outcome before opening a sale page. Check whether the displayed reference price reflects a useful comparison and look at the final checkout total. A dramatic discount does not establish teaching quality or suitability.

List the extra costs
Check exams, resits, certificates, tutor support, software and required materials. Ask whether these are mandatory or optional. For a practical course, equipment can cost more than access to the lessons.
Include the access period and whether you can finish within it. If the course renews automatically, record the renewal date and standard price. Do not assume downloading a certificate preserves access to teaching material.
Compare equivalent support
A self-paced video course and a tutor-supported programme are different products. Compare the support you actually need. If you only need an introduction, try an official or reputable free resource first.
Keep the offer terms and syllabus with your receipt. If a feature is important but unclear, ask the provider before paying rather than interpreting a marketing badge optimistically.
Before checkout
- Add all required costs to the comparison.
- Check access duration against your available study time.
- Compare feedback and assessment, not only video hours.

We may earn a commission from retailer links. Listings are matched to this topic and must pass the catalogue’s publication checks. Confirm fit, stock, delivery and the final price with the retailer. These are shopping leads, not hands-on reviews.
Online course
Choose a course whose complete cost and learning outcome are clear. Treat a discount as a price lead to verify, not evidence that the provider or certificate meets your needs.
Course textbook
Check whether the book is required, the exact edition and library availability. A used copy can be useful when the course accepts that edition and any required digital code is still available.
No matching UK listings currently pass the publication checks. You can still use the guide and browse the topic searches above.
