Build a small learning portfolio with evidence
Turn a completed course topic into a small portfolio project that demonstrates what you can actually do.
Choose a task you can explain clearly, such as a budget spreadsheet, a simple design or a troubleshooting guide. Use your own or properly permitted data. The purpose is to show your process and result without overstating professional experience.

Define the result and checks
Write a short brief, note assumptions and produce the item. Then test it: recalculate a spreadsheet example, ask someone to follow the instructions or compare the design against the brief. Record a limitation as well as the successful outcome.
Keep drafts and a brief explanation of what you changed. This creates better evidence than a screenshot with no context. Credit source material and distinguish your work from templates or assisted contributions.
Present it honestly
Use a clear title and explain the task, tools and outcome. Label it as a learning or personal project where appropriate. Do not claim client results, employment responsibilities or performance figures that the work does not establish.
Check sharing permissions and remove personal, workplace or confidential data before publishing. A synthetic example can demonstrate a skill without exposing real records.
A first portfolio entry
- State the problem and your role.
- Include the finished work and a meaningful check.
- Explain one limitation and what you learned.
Related products and deals
We may earn a commission from retailer links. Listings are matched to this topic and must pass the catalogue’s publication checks. Confirm fit, stock, delivery and the final price with the retailer. These are shopping leads, not hands-on reviews.
Project notebook
Use a simple record of decisions, tests and revisions. This helps you explain the work accurately; a plain notebook or existing digital tool is sufficient.
External storage drive
Useful for an additional copy of substantial project files. Check compatibility and test recovery, while keeping sensitive work within any required institutional storage arrangements.
No matching UK listings currently pass the publication checks. You can still use the guide and browse the topic searches above.
