Luggage size, weight and capacity comparison worksheet

Compare bags using separate records for external dimensions, weight and stated internal capacity. Copy the exact variant and configuration, including whether a bag is expanded, before comparing figures. A quoted capacity does not describe the bag’s external shape, and neither figure tells you its packed weight.

Use one set of units and retain the manufacturer’s measurement wording beside the numbers. Record your own packing observation separately if you have one. If you need an airline allowance check, use the actual airline and fare conditions as an additional requirement rather than treating a litre figure or a cabin-bag label as approval.

Define the comparison

Describe the journey and items the bags would carry.

Bag comparison rows

Keep every measure separate and preserve the manufacturer’s terms.

Entry 1

Record practical checks

Do not calculate usable capacity from a simple external box volume.

Using your worksheet

  1. Compare equivalent bag configurations and keep expanded measurements separate.
  2. Record external dimensions, empty weight, packed weight and quoted capacity in their own fields.
  3. Do not use external height multiplied by width and depth as a substitute for usable internal capacity.
  4. Check transport-specific allowances separately using current official conditions.

Assumptions and limits

No bag dimensions, usable capacity or airline allowance is supplied.

Quoted capacity methods may not be comparable; retain the source wording when the method is unclear.
