Choose food containers that stack in your fridge
A matching container set is useful only if the pieces fit the fridge shelves and hold the portions you actually save.
Measure one shelf and make a list of typical leftovers. You may need several shallow containers rather than a tower of different sizes. Food hygiene and storage times still need the guidance appropriate to the food.

Measure usable shelf depth
Measure behind the door storage and beneath the shelf above. Include lid tabs in the footprint. Leave the airflow and loading space required by the fridge instructions. A container that technically fits can still be inconvenient if everything must move to remove it.
Compare portion sizes
Use the volume of a normal meal portion to compare internal capacity. Check whether the advertised size is a brimful figure. Leave the headspace required by the container and food, particularly when freezing; do not assume every box is freezer suitable.
Read the markings on body and lid
Check microwave, dishwasher and freezer instructions separately for each part. A removable lid may have different limits from its base. Avoid heating a sealed container unless the exact instructions permit the arrangement, and use only the stated venting method.
Choose a labelling routine
Write the contents and date on a suitable removable label so a clear box is not your only reminder. Keep lids together in one place. Replace damaged parts according to maker guidance, and compare availability of individual replacement lids before choosing a large set.
