Product description
Single-Chamber Black Bat Habitat — Compact Warm Roost, 50 Bats Handcrafted from cedar and finished in black, this single-chamber habitat holds up to 50 bats. The dark finish stores daytime heat and gives it back after sundown, which makes it the compact choice for cooler regions. One chamber, up to 50 bats. A single deep crevice suits a starting colony. Bats roost packed tightly, so a slim habitat supports many more animals than its size suggests. Why the black finish. Black absorbs solar heat through the day and releases it slowly overnight. Where evenings turn cold, that retained warmth is often what decides whether bats stay. In hot regions, choose natural cedar instead. Rough-sawn interior. The interior face is grooved so bats can climb and hang securely — the detail that decides whether a habitat gets used at all. Weather-resistant. Solid cedar resists rot without chemical treatment and holds its shape through rain, wind and sun. Honest about timing. Bats scout in spring and are deliberate. Some habitats fill the first season, others the second. Height, sun hours and distance to water matter most — all covered below. Handcrafted cedar, built to last. Arrives fully assembled with mounting hardware and the Bat Conservation International siting guide. No expertise required. Direction: facing south or south-east, for 6–8 hours of direct sun. Mount to a wall or building, not a pole. Bat Conservation International advises against pole-mounting single-chamber houses — smaller houses hold a steady temperature less well, and poles are for multi-chamber houses. Never the trunk of a shade tree. Clearance: keep branches, wires and other predator perches 20–25 ft away. Water: within about a quarter mile of a stream, pond or lake if you can. Full instructions are in the Bat Conservation International guide included with your bat house.
