Compare tablecloth sizes with chairs in place
A tablecloth needs enough overhang to sit neatly without catching on chairs or becoming awkward for someone using the table.

Measure the tabletop shape
Record the full length and width or diameter. Note rounded corners and extensions. Use the retailer’s size guide to calculate the finished drop on each side. Do not assume a tablecloth labelled for six people will fit every six-seat table.
Check the seating arrangement
Place paper at the proposed drop and pull chairs into their normal positions. Consider laps, armrests and wheelchair access where relevant. Avoid a long loose edge in an area where someone might pull it while standing or moving past.
