A gaming desk setup using what you already own
Arrange a gaming desk for usable screen distance, mouse space and accessible cables before buying furniture.
Clear the desk and put back only the equipment you use. Position the screen, keyboard and mouse around a comfortable seated position. Make small adjustments and try them for an ordinary session rather than copying a photograph of someone else's setup.

Check the chair and screen together
A monitor stand changes screen position but does not solve an unsuitable chair or desk height. Adjust available controls first. Leave room for your legs and avoid placing storage where it forces you to sit at an angle.
If you use a laptop on a raised stand, a separate keyboard and mouse may be needed to keep the controls comfortable. Check that vents remain unobstructed and the stand supports the laptop securely.
Route cables for access
Keep power connections reachable and avoid tightly pulling cables around sharp corners. Leave enough slack for screen and chair movement. Group cables with reusable straps so you can disconnect a faulty device without dismantling the whole desk.
Check furniture load limits before attaching a monitor arm. A thin or unsuitable desktop may need a different solution; a stronger-looking clamp does not establish compatibility.
Spend in the right order
- Rearrange existing equipment before buying accessories.
- Fix a specific reach, space or stability problem.
- Measure mounting points and clearances before ordering.

Monitor arm
Useful when screen placement cannot be achieved with the existing stand. Check screen weight, mount pattern and desktop compatibility together, including clearance behind the desk.
Cable ties
Reusable straps help organise a changing setup without over-tightening cables. Keep connectors accessible and use cable routing that does not create a trip hazard or block ventilation.
