Mouse sensitivity before a new gaming mouse
Use a repeatable sensitivity check to distinguish an awkward setup from a mouse that genuinely needs replacing.
Start with one game, one mouse setting and a clear surface. Note the current sensitivity and save any profile before changing it. Consistency makes it possible to compare adjustments instead of repeatedly relearning a different setup.

Change one setting at a time
Choose a familiar practice area and move between two fixed points. If you repeatedly overshoot, try a modest reduction in sensitivity. If you cannot turn comfortably within the available space, try a modest increase or free more desk area.
Repeat the same exercise after each change. Avoid copying a professional player's numbers without considering their game settings, desk space and preferences. A high maximum sensitivity specification is not itself a reason to buy a mouse.
Check physical comfort
Notice grip, button reach and weight during normal use. A mouse can be technically capable yet awkward for your hand. Check whether extra side buttons are genuinely useful or frequently pressed by accident.
Clean the sensor area and surface as the manufacturer directs. Test on a suitable known-good surface before diagnosing tracking faults. For wireless devices, check battery state and receiver placement too.
Replace for a clear reason
- Adjust sensitivity before replacing a functioning mouse.
- Test another surface if tracking is inconsistent.
- Replace when fit, buttons or a confirmed fault remains a problem.

Gaming mouse
Compare shape, button placement and connection reliability before maximum sensitivity claims. Check return options because hand comfort is difficult to establish from dimensions alone.
Mouse mat
A consistent, correctly sized surface may solve an irregular tracking problem. Measure the clear desk area and choose a mat that remains flat without overlapping objects or unsupported edges.
